Maulid ad-Diba’i is a literary work that narrates the life and events surrounding the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a stylistic manner. The title is derived from its author, al-Imam Wajihuddin Abdurrahman bin Muhammad bin Umar bin Ali bin Yusuf bin Ahmad bin Umar ad-Diba’i asy-Shaibani al-Yamani az-Zabidi asy-Syafi’i.

On the other hand, the name Barzanji refers to its author, a prominent Sufi figure, Sheikh Ja’far bin Husin bin Abdul Karim bin Muhammad Al-Barzanji. He is best known for the widely recognized work Mawlid Al-Barzanji. This written piece is originally titled ‘Iqd Al-Jawahir (Necklace of Jewels) or ‘Iqd Al-Jawhar fi Mawlid An-Nabiyyil Azhar. The name "Barzanji" is derived from a location in Kurdistan known as Barzanj. The prominence of Al-Barzanji emerged in the 1920s when Sheikh Mahmud Al-Barzanji led a national Kurdish rebellion against British colonial rule in Iraq.
